Supermarket to install speed bump after residents’ concerns
By Aimee Walsh
A PETITION to install a speed ramp at a local supermarket due to safety concerns has been successful.
The petition to install a ramp to slow delivery and local traffic beside the SuperValu supermarket in Firhouse has been successful, with a ramp being installed this week.
The ramp will be installed at this location at SuperValu in Firhouse
Local resident Eve Turner started the petition, which gained over one hundred and twenty signatures online.
The petition read: “We need speed bumps to slow delivery and local traffic using this road to access Regan’s Supervalu in Firhouse.
“The kids in Killakee Estate and others use the delivery road at the back of Supervalu on the way to and from both school and the Supervalu complex.
“Delivery trucks and other traffic often speed down this road with no heed to the small kids that may also be using the road, on which there is no footpath. There have been several close calls to date.”
In an open letter penned by owner of SuperValu in Firhouse John Regan on Sunday, June 13, he confirmed that the ramp had been ordered and paid for.
“I have no objection to placing a ramp on the delivery entrance to Firhouse Shopping Centre, in fact I believe it is a very good idea. I was first asked about it last Thursday, June 10, and on Friday, June 11, I ordered and paid for it.”
The ramp is due to be delivered this coming week and will be installed immediately.
Mr Regan added: “We are constantly upgrading and improving the Centre and I am always available to listen to ideas or concerns that any community member may have.”
