Support project for people dealing with intimidation

A COMMUNITY drug project in Tallaght is starting a support clinic for people dealing with intimidation, either in the home, community or due to issues around drug debts.

CARP (Community Addiction Response Project) in Killinarden is encouraging individuals and families to engage with the clinic, which will run every Monday from 10am to 1pm.

Speaking with The Echo, James Kelly, CARP manager, said: “The clinic is a listening and sign posting service and we would encourage people experiencing intimidation to reach out.

“You’re not on your own.”

The clinic is for anybody who feels they or their family are experiencing any form of intimidation, including intimidation due to issues around drug debts.

Anyone who feels they or a family member is experiencing domestic violence or those experiencing issues relating to anti-social behaviour or general intimidation in their community are also encouraged to call.

“We’d encourage people to ring for an appointment and come in to talk,” James said.

“We’ll listen, and let people talk about the issues they are experiencing.

“It’s important that people feel safe in their home, in their own community.”

Working alongside WASP, a family support service based in Whitechurch, CARP can offer advice on possible solutions and referral pathways to appropriate services.

One to one counselling, key working and family support is also available.

CARP is providing the clinic due to a need across local communities, and without any extra funding.

“We have services here on site and there are also expert services within the community that we work with,” James said.

According to James, more support is required in relation to supporting individuals and families impacted on by intimidation, with the project foreseeing a need to expand the clinic in the New Year.

The clinic will run every Monday from 10am to 1pm, starting this Monday, November 22.
