Takeover of boarded-up houses on Station Road in Clondalkin underway
RESPOND Housing are in the process of taking over six boarded-up houses at Station Road.
The homes are located close to vacant houses at Station Grove – which have been vacant since they were built in 2006.
In 2015, a man fell to his death from one of the houses after gardai responded to a burglary call.
Meanwhile, construction of 37 social houses in Letts Field has started in Clondalkin – while it is expected that the development of 61 units in St Cuthbert’s is due to go to tender by the end of August.
Independent councillor Francis Timmons welcomed the developments and Respond’s interest in Station Road.
Cllr Timmons said: “I am very concerned that we have a lot of children living in hotel and emergency accommodation. It is not sustainable long-term.
“It is slow but progress is being made. Children in hotel rooms and emergency accommodation are lacking space and privacy to be children. It is not good for their mental health – their educational and learning needs cannot be met adequately in a hotel room.”
