A MUSICIAN who had nearly €3,000 worth of cannabis in his car was placed on a 12-month Probation Bond by Blanchardstown Court

Toya Akinade, aged 22, with an address at Meile An Rí Crescent, Balgaddy, Lucan, had pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply at Castle Road, Lucan, on November 9, 2016.

He had also pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply at his home address also on November 9, 2016.

The court had heard that on November 9, 2016, the gardai stopped a car on Castle Road in Lucan driven by Akinade and they found a black bag containing cannabis worth €2,900.

The gardai then carried out a follow-up search of Akinade’s home and they found €284 worth of cannabis.

Akinade was before Judge David McHugh for a probation report.

Akinade’s counsel, Ciaran McLoughlin Bl, said it was a good probation report.

Judge McHugh said: “It is unfortunate he is dabbling in drugs.”

Mr McLoughlin said his client is 22 and is currently studying in NCAD.

He said Akinade is a very talented musician who will be performing at the Longitude Festival and other festivals throughout the summer.

He said that in relation to the drugs, Akinade had built up a drug debt.

Judge McHugh said it was unfortunate as that line of career can have its temptations.

He said: “I’m not being facetious. Somebody says I have got a joint here.”

Mr McLoughlin said Akinade comes from a very good family.

His brother is a doctor and his sister is studying for her Junior Cert. He said they had been brought up by their mother who was originally from Nigeria.

Judge McHugh placed Akinade on a Probation Bond of 12 months.
