Tallaght athletes perform well at Nationals
SEVERAL Tallaght athletes performed well at Day One and in relays finals at the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore last weekend.
Leonard Deering was first into action, producing a new personal best time of 2:15.53 when finishing 6th in the U14 800m, and although Hazel Jordan did not run to form in the U18 800m where she finished 7th, her focus will now be on the 400m in a fortnights time.
Field event debutantes, Zane Van Zyl and Beauty Ikpefua threw 19.57m and 18.37m respectively in their U15 javelin and discus contests, and will be looking forward to building on the experience.
The club’s U17 4X100m relay team consisting of Ellie Carruth, Joanna Shodipo, Emani Asogba and Gloria Oigbuchie produced a new combined time of 52.08 when finishing 7th in their final while the U18 team, Ellie Carruth, Joanna Shodipo, Emani Asogba and Olivia Tyrrell finished 4th in the final with a new combined time of 52.55.
There will be plenty of interest in Day’s 3 & 4 of the National Championships in a fortnights time when no less than 19 of the clubs’ juvenile athletes who won medals and qualified in the Dublin Championships in recent weeks, will be aiming to make the podium.
