Tallaght Choral Society: All welcome to try out singing skills at open evening

Tallaght Choral Society will be hosting an open evening at St Mary’s Priory next week.

It will be accessible to anyone who wants to try out their singing and considers a future in the choir.

Lynn Broderick, a spokesperson for Tallaght Choral Society, tells us that “Tallaght Choral Society was the brainchild of Fr. Donal Sweeney, OP, when in 1967 he started a small church choir based in the Dominican Priory.”

After going strong for 56 years, Donal Sweeney is still singing with the choir and is hoping to conduct a performance in the Civic Theatre in November.

They rehearse every Monday from 7:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. from September to May, with a break for summer each year.

They have additional rehearsals and workshops when coming up to a concert, and they also have frequent, more social rehearsals in members’ houses.

According to Lynn, the main ingredients involved in preparing to rehearse are concerted effort, enthusiasm, and enjoyment, as conductor Lynsey Callaghan teaches, directs, and supports us to reach and maintain her high musical standards.

Events to look forward to with Tallaght Choral Society include a Lake Garda trip from October 19–23, ‘Come and Sing Handel’s Messiah’ on October 28, and the Tallaght Person of the Year Awards on November 12.

Lynn would like to thank the society’s “wonderful conductors, their supporters, the Priory, their families, friends, and audiences for helping the choir get to this point.”

The open rehearsal takes place at St. Mary’s Priory at 7:45 p.m. on September 11.
