Tallaght Hospital’s inspirational Christmas Trees
By Laura Lyne
STAFF at Tallaght Hospital have been spreading Christmas cheer and creating a buzz around the holidays by making creative Christmas trees, which have garnered a positive reaction online and on national television.
As part of their annual Christmas tree competition, the staff at Tallaght Hospital have been putting their creative juices to use with such inventions as the “Crutchmas Tree”, a Star Wars inspired “Stormtreeper”, a recycled 7Up bottle tree and a festive display on the William Stokes ward.
The trees have received a positive reaction online, and were recently featured as part of Ireland AM on TV3.
Triona Murphy, a nurse at Tallaght Hospital and chairperson of the Tallaght Hospital Action Group, praised the creativity that has gone into the trees this year. Triona told The Echo: “We have a Christmas tree competition in the hospital each year, but this year has seen so many unusual entries.
“A lot of time has been put into the trees by staff, in the Ormsby ward they’ve been saving medicine holders since August and have cleaned them out and recycled them.
“The Gogarty ward also spent a lot of time cleaning out medicine bottles and colouring them with food dye.
“There’s no real budget for Christmas decorations in the hospital, and the decorations we do have are years old, so the staff have to get a bit more creative.
“It’s created a real buzz around the place. It’s really nice that everybody has worked so hard, and on Friday the CEO and the director of the hospital will decide the winner, with some really lovely prizes for the winners.
“Fair due needs to be given to everyone for the work they’ve put into it and for the attention the trees have received, it’s nice to get the positive side of Tallaght Hospital out there.”
