Tallaght on fire in Open
TALLAGHT Martial Arts fighters produce one of their best results to date in the 2018 Irish Open, finishing second in the medal table out of 201 clubs and 2,197 competitor from 23 different countries as they won 34 medals in total.
Jodie Browne was first up on Saturday in the Junior Female (16-18Years) -60kg Points Fighting section where she reached the final after disposing of opponents from Norway, UK, Italy before beating Elizabeth Rouillard from Canada in the final 12-4.
And in her own Older Cadets (13-15 years) -60kg category she beat compatriot Leah Grant in the decider before going all the way in the Older Cadets -65kg division, beating Rouillard again to make it a hat-trick of titles.
And she did not stop there, seeing off Nicole Moss form the UK in the final of the Junior Female Open Weight Grand Champion.
Another Tallaght Martial Arts fighter who was on form over the weekend was Conor Mc Glinchey as he won three titles at the event including the Junior Men’s Grand Champion.
He firstly landed the Junior Men -79kg Points Fighting prize after outpointing Jake O’Connor in the decider after which he topped the -84kg class, in which he saw off Martin Jareg-Bang from Norway in the final to secure his second title.
Joe Dolan and Stephen Jones were both fighting in the Over 35 Years -89kg division and met in the final.
They opted not to fight and so Dolan took first place and Jones second before it was a third and second place finish for the two respectively in the +89kg Over 35 class.
Adam Condon took first place in the Men’s Light Contact -57kg despite having amazingly broken his foot in the first fight.
Nathan Clarke topped the podium in -28kg Younger Cadets after some very tough bouts on his path to the final against Liam McCabe.
His older sister Jenna Clarke was runner-up in the Older Cadets Beginners -50kg as was Naoise Colvin in the Older Cadets (13-15 years) -46kg before she took bronze in the Older Cadets -50k Points Fighting.
Dylan McClelland was third in – 47kg Younger Cadets, Zara Jones second in -42kg Advance Older Cadets and third in -46kg Advance Older Cadets.
Ellen McCaughey finished second in the Older Cadets 47+ and third at -47 while Leo Golding won bronze in the 9-10 Years Points Fighting and Cialam Brennan silver in Older Cadet -52kg Advance.
Nicole Bannon emerged third from the -65 Senior division and Luke Shaw runner-up from the -47kg Beginners Points Fighting as did Dominick Domantas from the Men’s Beginners -80kg Points Fighting and Lar Smith from the +80kg Men’s Beginners PF.
