Tallaght squads deliver in Athlone

TALLAGHT Athletic Club’s juvenile relay squads delivered the goods at the final day of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone recently.

The Under 17 Girls 4x200m relay team were in top form with Aisling McGuinness breaking well from the blocks and Niamh Gibson, Lauryn Mc Dermot and double sprint record holder Rhasidat Adeleke completing the job.

Their combined time of 1.45.50 was almost five seconds faster than their closest rivals Thomastown AC with Dooneen AC taking bronze.

The Under 17 Boys 4x200m team of Dylan Byrne, Kenny Ogundipe, Philip Omisore and Yan Geraghty also produced a good time of 1.37.51 to take bronze behind Leevale and Dundrum South Dublin. The squad also included Tai Ogundipe and Moses Ikpefua.

At Under 18 degree, Conor Barry, Aidan Darcy, Ryan Johnson, Yan Geraghty and Philip Omisore clocked 1.35.96 for another set of bronze medals while the Under 18 Girls squad of Emma Hutchinson, Madeline Chan, Eve Keegan, Eirean Hayes, Lauryn Mc Dermott and Aisling McGuniness crossed the line in sixth in 1.54.83.

Brishan Le Goff O’Broin, Christopher Duffy, Conor Barry, Eoghan Keaney, Aidan Darcy and Ryan Johnson combined to finish fourth in the Under 19 Boys 4x200m Relay in 1.36.11.

Tallaght’s sole competitor in the field events on the day was Philip Omisore who threw 10.15m in the shot putt for seventh place overall.

Next up for some of the Tallaght athletes will be the first track and field event for Under 10-16s in Santry next Saturday while others will be aiming for the West Leinster Schools T&F Championships in Santry next week with more setting their sights on the first of the Dublin Graded Meet Series in Tallaght on Wednesday, May 9.
