Tallaght Stadium new stand to open for President’s Cup
THE new north stand in Tallaght Stadium will be in use for the President’s Cup fixture between Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic on February 9.
In an update provided to Cllr Charlie O’Connor (FF) at an area committee meeting on Monday, the council said they expect “substantial completion” of the stand will be reached this month.
“The revamped corporate and hospitality areas are completed, except for some minor snagging issues to be resolved,” stated the council.
“The south stand improvements will be completed with improved accessible seating with canopies provided and a changing places facility in place.
“We expect that the north stand will be in use for the start of the 2024 football season, subject to all safety certifications being in place.
“There may be a limit on capacity initially to allow for stadium operations and procedures to bed in as well as for the match day management plans to take account of the increased capacity at the stadium. Y
“The stand is expected to be used for the President’s Cup on February 9.
“The completion of this project is a major step in the modernisation of the venue to allow it [to] continue to host the important games for both domestic as well as European and International fixtures.
“In addition, we are hoping to host many corporate and community meetings and events as well as large-scale events in the venue over the next number of years.”
The new stand will see the stadium capacity reach 10,000, and the fact that it is now nearing completion is welcome news in the community, after the project encountered delays last year.
Last June, work on the north stand had been delayed “by some weeks” due to supply chain issues affecting the contractor.
The structure had an original completion date of July 2023, but this was pushed back to the third quarter of last year due to the supply chain issues, with completion now expected this month.
