Tears of joy and happiness as girls and boys get their results

Schools in Tallaght, Greenhills and Templeogue were overjoyed as the Leaving Certificate results were released on Wednesday.
Over 57,000 students woke up anxiously across the country on Wednesday morning, with a lot of students wondering what 14 years of work in the school system will look like in the form of points.

Noel Kelly, Deputy Principal of Greenhills College said: “Overall our students are extremely happy with their results and most are confident that they will get their CAO offers on Monday, or will pursue their Further Education courses here in Greenhills College.
"There have been reports of Maths having a high fail rate across the country and I am happy to say that is not echoed here at Greenhills College. Our LCA students did extremely well too, with all getting merit to distinction grades.”
Tallaght Community School Principal Teresa Hennessy said she was very pleased with the results.
“The results were very solid across the board. We had 103 students doing the Leaving Certificate and 20 doing the Applied Leaving Cert and overall we were very happy.
“The new marking system is making students more ambitious, with a lot more students doing Higher Level subjects.
“We were happy in particular with Irish Higher Level and science subjects.”
The students in St Mac Dara’s school in Templeogue were very pleased with the results, according to principal Paul Kingston.
Some exceptional results
“The students did very well. We had 161 students sitting the exams and any one I had spoken to were very pleased. We had some exceptional results and overall we are very pleased,”
Principal of Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght, Deiric Mac An Bhaird, said their “Leaving Cert students are delighted with their excellent results.”
He continued saying: “They have succeeded in getting their choices. There has been a continuous increase year on year of students taking papers at Higher Level and achieving excellent grades.
“I congratulate the students, their teachers and the families on their excellent work and results this year. Students should sit down with their parents and friends and discuss their options going forward.”

Pride overcame the principal of Old Bawn Community School, Paul Crone, with him saying that he is “very proud of the achievements of our students, their excellent results are testament to their commitment and hard work, the support from their parents and the contribution of the dedicated teaching staff.
“Initial analysis would indicate a record number of students have achieved their points for college. Our Head Boy this year achieved 554 points, which leads a significant number of students achieving over 500 points.”
A girl got 577 and a boy got 579
Feargal Ó Giolláin, Principal of Coláiste Chilliain in Clondalkin said: “I’m very happy with the results, and the students seemed very happy with what they got as well. They all got the points they needed to do what they wanted to do in college.
“Two students got over 500 points – a girl got 577 and a boy got 579.”
Marie-Therese Kilmartin, Principal of Coláiste Bríde in Clondalkin said: “We’re delighted here in Coláiste Bríde. A good strong number got over 500 points, and a good few got over 400 too, so the girls did well and there’s a nice spread of results.
“Some got exactly what they needed for going to college and there are some who will be anxious over the forthcoming days waiting to see if they got enough points.
“But there were a lot of tears of joy, and we’re very proud of all the girls – feels like the end of an era in a way with them moving on.”
