BOTH Templeogue College and St Colmcille’s Community School in Knocklyon enjoyed success on the opening day of the Subway Schools All-Ireland Cup Finals in the National Basketball Arena yesterday.

The former won out 74-65 against St Malachy’s College, Belfast to land the Under 19A Boys Cup, Matthew Harper emerging their MVP in what was a nailbiting showdown.

It was Malachy’s who led by two at the halftime break, but Templeogue, fuelled by Harper’s haul of 22 points, battled their way back for victory.

St Colmcille’s, meanwhile, carded a 46-35 point triumph over Jesus & Mary Gortnor Abbey of Mayo to bring home the Girls Under 16C All-Ireland title.

Emma Mullins was on fire for the eventual winners, netting a massive 30 points, as they built on their seven-point advantage at the recess.
