Templeogue’s pitch project given another major boost

FAI Chief Executive John Delaney paid a visit to Templeogue United on Sunday, March 18, to officially present the club with a cheque for €10,000 as part of the funding for their new pitch development, work on which is expected to commence next month.

The club has worked on this project for the past three years, raising money with various initiatives including the staging of a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ event as well as their successful Sports Capital Grant application and this latest donation from the FAI.

Templeogue United, last year, celebrated its 40th anniversary during which time it has enjoyed enormous success throughout all levels within the club.

What’s more, several of its players have gone across the water to compete at the top level with many more playing at home in the Airtricity League.

This year the club caters for 36 schoolboy teams in the DDSL and SDFL Leagues and one girls team together with two Leinster Football League sides and three senior outfits playing in the Leinster Senior League.

What’s more, Templeogue has entered its first Over 35s team who will commence their season in the coming weeks.

The Templeogue Academy is run every Sunday morning from 9.45-11.15am with almost 120 boys and girls signed up to develop their skills through an excellent coaching regime overseen by their club coach Eric Stokes.

In terms of existing facilities, the club currently boasts three 11 aside and two 7/9 aside pitches, and this new development will bring a new state-of-the-art 11-aside grass pitch right opposite their bustling all weather.

This new pitch will cater for all teams and allow the continuation of the passing game be played for years to come.

Templeogue would like to thank all its kind sponsors from large companies to individuals and everyone within the club for their efforts in making this project a reality.

On another note, Templeogue United chairman Albert Johnston was, last year, awarded with a lifetime achievement award from the FAI for his continued work and involvement in football for the community.

Johnston will receive his award in Cork at an official FAI awards ceremony in June this year.
