Templeogue team delivers in NAC
TEMPLEOGUE Swim Team enjoyed several hugely successful days at the Irish Open Swimming Championships in the NAC last week.
Leading the way was Ellen Walshe (15) who won gold in 200 Butterfly, touching home in 2:16.43 which was under the consideration time for both the World and European Junior Championships.
She finished second in the 100m Butterfly, again her time of 1:01.60 leaving her under consideration for the European Juniors in Israel in July.
Not done there, she chalked up two bronze medals in 200IM and 400IM – the latter also being inside the European Junior QT – while she also won the Junior 200BC final.
Her clubmate Cara Osing (13) won the Junior 100 FC in a new PB and inside the consideration time for the European Youth Olympics in Hungary, also in July.
She was fifth in both the 200FC and the 400FC Open Finals (both also under EYOF time) before she made the final of the Junior 200BC, finishing in sixth place.
Sean McNicholl (15) won the Junior Boys 100FC and 100BF, both in PBs and both inside the EYOF times.
He also finished fifth in the Mens 100BC and won the Junior 50FC while placing seventh in the Mens Open 50BC.
Joe Kenny (15) placed fifth in both Junior 100BS and 200BS finals and Finn O’Keeffe (15) also made a medal decider in the Junior 50FC in a superb new PB.
Other finalists for the club were Robyn Lynch (15) and Hannah Walshe (14) in the 400IM and 200BF, with Lynch also being reserve for the 100BS and 200BS.
What’s more, Lynch had already posted a time in February inside the EYOF consideration time for Hungary.
Alie Martin (16) also qualified for finals in the Junior 200BC finishing sixth and was reserve for the 50BC in the Open event.
Other Templeogue athletes who raced were Leah Martin (13), posting season’s best times in 200BC, 200BS and 100BC, Traolach McKnight (18) who produced a season’s best in the 1500FC and Ethan Brady (15) who was pleased with his efforts also in the 100BC and 200BC, making reserve for the Junior 200BC Final.
Sean Kenny (14) and Isabella Moes (15), meanwhile, gained invaluable experience at their first Senior Open LC Championships.
Alie Martin, Robyn Lynch, Cara Osing and Ellen Walshe combined to produce a strong performance in the Medley Team Relay to take the bronze.
The Templeogue team now have three club athletes based in the Pool in Templeogue who have achieved international representation times for the 2017 season while one athlete McNicholl, who trains in Dubai, completes a strong line-up.
Next up for the team is the Schools Interprovincial for which Templeogue have had eight members selected to represent their local schools this month.
Another group of 12 travel to Ulster Age Groups, while a further three athletes have been selected for the Leinster Team travelling to Ulster Age Groups also.
A younger group of 22 development athletes travel to New Ross mid month while an older pool of 14 head to the University of Aberdeen LC Open at the end of April.
