Tennis courts refurb plans to go ahead despite calls for sports hub

THE REFURBISHMENT of the tennis courts in Kingwood Heights is intended to proceed this year despite resident’s calls for a sports hub to replace the courts, reports Aimee Walsh.

At a recent council meeting, the council responded to councillor Charlie O’Connor’s question about the plans for the tennis courts in Kingswood, which have fallen into disrepair in recent years.

In their response, the council confirmed that they only have funding allocated for the refurbishment of the courts, despite the push from some residents for a large-scale sports facility.

In 2020, a motion was passed calling on the council to support the campaign to have the local tennis court transformed into a sports facility as many residents claimed it was urgent due to the area having over 16 local teams and organisations, some of which were forced to travel outside Kingswood to train due to the lack of facilities.

In July 2021, the motion for provision of a sports hub in the area was passed to be included in the South Dublin County Council County Development Plan despite the council stating a lack of funding.
