The Vulpynes – In your face fusion of punk and garage rock

A LOCAL band who create an “in-your-face fusion of punk and garage rock” are gearing up for a string of Dublin gigs in the coming weeks, ahead of the release of their debut EP on March 1.
Melodic rock duo Vulpynes, consisting of Clondalkin woman Kaz on drums and Tallaght native Maeve Molly on vocals and guitar, combine ferocious drumming and electric riffs in a sound that recalls punk supremos Brody Dalle and Kathleen Hanna.

This year has gotten off to a great start for the band, after being signed to the UK-based punk and rock label Headcheck Records and being announced in festival line-ups during the summer.
Talking about the momentum surrounding Vulpynes, Maeve told The Echo: “This year has been fantastic, we're very busy booking up the year ahead with festivals and gigs.
“We’re supporting the UK Subs in the Voodoo Lounge in June, which will be a huge highlight for us.
“Then we’re heading to the UK for a mini tour in May, and we’re playing Rebellion Punk Music Festival in August which has always been a dream of ours.”
Maeve added: “Then we’ll be playing Outcider Festival in Somerset the same weekend.
“We’re also heading to Germany later in the year, which we’ve never played before. It’s going to be our busiest year yet!”
Vulpynes’s live show attracts a varied audience, with the seasoned performers having played a number of different genre-spanning nights and festivals, including metal, acoustic and punk-focused gigs.
Maeve said: “It’s always great to see people up the front bobbing along to our music.
“Everything we play is up-tempo and energetic – we seem to attract music lovers of all ages.”
The hotly tipped band will be playing a number of shows in venues in the city centre in the coming weeks, namely Thomas House on February 17, Drop Dead Twice on Francis Street on February 18, and Sin É on March 31.
