‘They’ve taken my hard work away’ thieves steal coffee trailer
THE owner of a popular Ballymount-based cookie business said thieves “took away my livelihood” when they stole her business’s coffee trailer on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 8am, a bright pink coffee trailer belonging to The Drunken Cookie was stolen from Fashion City in Ballymount, where it had been securely clamped for several days.
The trailer had previously been used by the company as a mobile café and cookie shop at Grand Canal Dock, before the company decided to temporarily put the trailer out of use last week.
The owner of The Drunken Cookie, Saifa Kajani, told The Echo: “I don’t get it. The trailer was clamped, and it had only been there for four days.
“I feel like, who in their right mind would take it? I’m so, so upset.
“Words cannot describe how much this has impacted me now – I just want it back in the position where I left it.”
Ms Kajani’s frustration at the situation is compounded by the fact that she recently came out of rehab for alcoholism and is at a delicate point in her recovery.
“I’m only out of rehab less than a month,” she said. “They’ve taken away my livelihood, the only thing that was keeping me on the straight and narrow in my sobriety.

“They’ve taken my hard work away. I was at rock bottom when I started this business, and now I’m at rock bottom again.”
The trailer is valued at between €15,000 and €17,000 and was stocked with a number of items including a fridge, a coffee machine, a crepe machine, utensils, coffee cups and mugs.
While The Drunken Cookie will continue to sell its products online, the theft of the trailer has limited the company’s ability to expand in the immediate future.
“I was going to convert it into a kitchen for a new business venture, but now it’s gone,” said Ms Kajani.
A garda spokesperson told The Echo that they had received a report about the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
Ms Kajani said the trailer was spotted going southbound on the M50 between 8am and 9am on Tuesday morning, being driven by a dark car which then changed over to a courier van.
