Tidy Towns group warn of rats in illegal dumping site
By Maurice Garvey
CLONDALKIN Tidy Towns have urged their volunteers not to clean up a dumping blackspot due to the presence of rats.
The organisation posted a picture last week of an illegal dumping site at Oakfield (off Ninth Lock Road) and says there is also ample evidence of illegal drinking taking place at the location.

A CTT member said: “Unfortunately the rat that I came across today was too fast and I couldn’t get an image. There may be more so I will not ask CTT volunteers to clear this area.
“Many people and organisations have a responsibility for this mess, the people who dump here firstly and the owner of the site. Unfortunately, no one has been held to account.
"South Dublin County Council officials and elected representatives are well aware of this site. Gardai have been informed of illegal drinking.”
CTT encourage residents to contact SDCC on 4149000 and report any incidents of illegal dumping and drinking at the site.
They have also called for residents to contact their local representatives.
“This is not only a serious issue of illegal and organised dumping, but also a potential public health hazard,” said CTT.
“We have a total of 12 public representatives in our area. This action and inaction is simply not good enough.”
