Tourist accommodation units to be changed to residential apartments at Garters Lane Saggart

PLANS to change 80 short term tourist accommodation units to 84 residential apartment units on Garters Lane in Saggart have been given the green light by South Dublin County Council.

The applicant, Westpark Property Limited, has proposed that the 80 short term tourist accommodation units, which consist of 34 one bed units and 46 two bed units, can be changed to residential apartments.

The proposed change of use is to cater for 84 apartment units, containing 34 one bed units, 44 two bed units and six three bed units.

It is also proposed that the ground floor of the development, which the applicant described as a ‘reception’ block, will be changed from a hotel reception, dining room and kitchen to instead facilitate the residential apartment units.

Westpark Property Limited, which lists Gillian Curran, James Byrne and Stephen Peat as its directors, also included provisions for balconies, terraces and new openings for windows and doors to all of the apartment units, in their application.

Children’s play areas are included in the plans, as are bin stores and 84 bicycle parking spaces.

There are provisions for all associated site development, including building improvements, landscaping and boundary treatment works above and below ground.

The council granted permission for the change of use on April 17, with a number of conditions.

One of the conditions relates to cars on the site, with the developer being instructed to provide facilities for battery operated cars at a rate of 10 per cent of the total car parking spaces.

The developer is also prohibited from sub-dividing the apartments by way of sale or letting.
