Tower’s Minors finish top of Division Two

ROUND Tower’s Minor footballers secured their place in the top ranks for next season after capturing the Division Two crown following their 3-10 to 1-10 triumph over St Pat’s Donabate in the Clondalkin Community Centre.

The hosts, in last weeks match, had chalked up two points on the board through Joey Leech and Alex O’Neill before St Pat’s opened their account by way of a pointed free eight minutes in.

Round Tower’s Minor footballers secured the Division Two title following their win over St Patrick’s, Donabate.

Leech went close to hitting the net, but his effort cannoned back of the crossbar and into the path of Ciaran Courtney who despatched it over the bar.

Yet it was not long before Leech got the goal his work deserved after he latched on to Joe Murray’s through ball and fired it to the roof of the net to help his side into a 1-6 to 0-5 advantage by the halftime break.

Towers struggled to break clear of their opponents until 15 minutes after the restart when Aaron Curtis steered the ball home under the St Pat’s netminder following some good work by goalkeeper Oisin Douglas, Jack Halpin and Conor Morrow in the build-up.

Soon after O’Neill struck another one over the bar to make it 2-8 to 0-8 and victory was effectively secured six minutes from time when Leech scooped up a Pat’s kick-out and fed the ball to Courtney who made no mistake with his attempt for the top corner.

Leech registered another point and even a late penalty and couple of points by Pat’s could not propel them back before the final whistle sounded.

The win completed another great season for this Towers outfit who have now secured two promotions in as many seasons.
