Two men arrested following public order incidents in Tallaght

TWO men were arrested by Gardai following public order, criminal damage and dangerous driving incidents in Tallaght and the M50 on Saturday morning.

A number of cars and a van were set on fire during the incident in the Brookfield area with the Public Order Unit deployed to manage the situation.

There was also an attempt to ram an official Garda vehicle during the incident.

Dublin Fire Brigade were also called to put out the vehicle fires while Gardai were supported by the Air Support Unit, Public Order Unit, divisional traffic and several units from the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

A statement from Gardai said: “Gardai have arrested two males following public order, criminal damage and dangerous driving incidents that occurred between Tallaght, Dublin 24, and the M50 southbound, this morning, Saturday 24th August 2024.

“A number of Garda units responded to incidents near Brookfield Road, Tallaght. A number of vehicles were set on fire in the area.

“Public order units were deployed to manage the situation. No injuries were reported at the time.

“During an incident of dangerous driving, an attempt to ram an official Garda vehicle occurred.

“With the assistance of the Air Support Unit, Public Order Unit, divisional traffic and several units from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (South and East), the vehicle was located in the Co. Wicklow area”.

Two men were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. They are currently detained at a Garda station in the Dublin area.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
