
Two men charged with Lucan murder

TWO men have appeared in Blanchardstown District Court charged with the murder of Wayne Whelan in Lucan last month.
Judge David McHugh remanded Christopher Moran (50) and Anthony Casserly (23) in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday, December 20 next.

Mr Whelan (42) was shot dead in a vehicle before it was set on fire with his remains inside at Mount Andrew Rise, Lucan on November 18 last.
A woman arrested in connection with the murder was released from custody last Friday and a file was sent to the DPP.
As both men are charged with murder, bail can only be granted in the High Court.
Casserly, with an address at Rowlagh Park, Clondalkin, and Moran, also with an address at Rowlagh Park, are charged with murdering Mr Whelan at Mount Andrew Court in Lucan on November 18, 2019.
Both men appeared in custody before Judge David McHugh.
Casserly was brought from the custody area first.
Detective-Sergeant John Cosgrove from Ronanstown Garda Station told Judge McHugh that he arrested Casserly at 9.31pm on Monday (December 16) at Lucan Garda Station.
He said Casserly was later charged at 10pm by Sergeant Noel McKenna and made no reply to the charge.
Judge McHugh told Det-Sgt Cosgrove that the maximum he could remand the defendant in custody was for seven days.
Moran’s solicitor, Simon Fleming, made an application for and was granted legal aid.
Judge McHugh remanded Moran in custody to appear before Cloverhill Court on December 20.
Moran was then brought from the custody area.
Detective-Sergeant Ronan Dunne from Ronanstown Garda Station told Judge McHugh that he charged Moran at 9.39pm on Monday at Ronanstown Garda Station.
He said Dunne was later charged by Sergeant Paul Dunne at 9.49pm. Det-Sgt Dunne said Moran said “no comment” in reply to the charge.
Moran’s counsel, Jennifer Jackson Bl, was granted legal aid.
Judge McHugh remanded Moran in custody to Cloverhill District Court on December 20.
