Two months jail for man who acted aggressively to pub security guard

A MAN who acted aggressively to a pub security guard has been jailed for two months by Blanchardstown District Court.
Christian Goonery, aged 30, with an address at Lindisfarne Avenue, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour and possession of a knife at the Penny Hill, Ballyowen Shopping Centre, Lucan, on April 6, 2016.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of wine from Topaz, Ninth Lock Road, Clondalkin, on August 12, 2017.
Presenting Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge McHugh that on April 6, 2016, the gardai had been called to the Penny Hill pub in Lucan by security.
She said Goonery had been squaring up to a security guard outside the pub.
Sgt Callaghan said Goonery told the security guard he had a knife and was acting very aggressively.
She said Goonery was arrested and was found in possession of a knife.
She added that on August 12 last, Goonery entered Topaz on the Ninth Lock Road and took two bottles of wine without paying for them.
Sgt Callaghan said the gardai later found Goonery, he had been drinking from one of the wine bottles.
She said Goonery had 23 previous convictions.
At Dublin Circuit Court on November 18 last, he had been sentenced to three years with the last 18 months suspended for assault causing harm.
Judge McHugh commented: “He seems to have quite a propensity for violence.”
He noted that Goonery has quite a pleasant disposition when he is sitting in court.
Goonery’s solicitor, Simon Fleming, said his client is quite a pleasant man to deal with when he is not drinking.
Judge McHugh sentenced Goonery to two months jail for breaching the peace and took the remaining charges into consideration.
