A unique temporary bike parking unit has been unveiled in Templeogue Village.
The hard-to-miss bright orange bike port demonstrates how many bikes can be parked in the space that one car would usually take up.

The bike parking space is a trial unit, set up to encourage people to choose cycling over driving.
In a statement to The Echo, South Dublin County Council said: “The Car Bike Port is a temporary cycle parking unit which aims to trial cycle parking around the County.
“The car shape design is to represent the space that is required to park a car and how that space can be occupied by more bicycles i.e bicycles require less room to park.”
“Templeogue is due to undergo improvement works over the coming months and was identified as a suitable place to trial the parking as there are no facilities within the village for people to securely lock a bike.
“South Dublin County Council hopes that this trial will encourage local residents to think, with a little imagination, how space within the urban environment can be repurposed away from the car for other community uses such as more space for pedestrians, provision of seating to rest and planting to provide green space.
“The council hopes to source similar style parking to be used in trials around the County in 2021.”
