
Upcoming shows for new season in the Civic Theatre
THE Civic Theatre in Tallaght will be hosting a number of upcoming events as part of its new season selection starting this week.
Comedy musical act The Nualas will be performing from September 1 at €20 per ticket along with a comedic performance entitled ‘The Successful TD’ starring Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy on September 8 and 9 at a cost of €21 per person.
Adults can also look forward to the mature puppet production of Shakespeare's ‘Venus and Adonis’ which will be showing as part of the Theatre Festival in from October 3-7.
This is a significant event as it marks the first time in 10 years that the Royal Shakespeare Company in the UK are returning to Dublin.
Ticket prices for this will be €25 with the opportunity to avail of a workshop also.
For primary school children, the play ‘Tom Crean’ will be showing for two days on October 23 and 24. The play aims to educate children about one of the world’s most famous explorers and the tickets for this go on sale at €5 per child in a class.
Similarly, Pirate Queen Gráinne the play aimed at schoolchildren will tell the story of the infamous Gráinne Mhaol as it attempts to challenge gender stereotypes in a way that children will understand.
The showing will be in November with tickets on sale at €5 per schoolchild.
Secondary school students can look forward to the arrival of the Cyclone workshop which translates Shakespeare in connection with the current Junior and Leaving Certificate curriculum. Tickets will be at a reduced rate for students at €15 per person.
For families, a parent and baby workshop will take place on October 20 entitled ‘I Am Baba’. Described as a “gentle adventure”, babies aged between 0-12 months are given materials, objects and sounds to interact with as their reactions are monitored to what they experience.
Director Anna Newell transforms this into a show so that others may observe and experience it also. The duration is 20 minutes long with tickets at €10 for parent and baby.
Tickets go on sale on September 18 for ‘The Three Musketeers’ Christmas pantomime. The prices are yet to be announced but due to expected demand, early booking is essential. Over 4,000 people come to see the pantomime every year as it is a family event. It will run from mid-December until the beginning of January this year.
‘What Would Ma Say’ is a stand out comedic play set in 1950’s Dublin that is coming to the Civic this November 1. Tickets cost €18 with all proceeds earned going towards the North Galway Children of the Belarus Charity.
