Viking Swim Club looking to build on superb award win
VIKING Swim Club is looking forward to another strong year ahead after recently picking up the ‘Leinster Regional Club of the Year’ Award at the Swim Ireland annual presentation night in Ballina.
Based primarily out of Ballyfermot Sport and Fitness, while also occasionally using Stewarts Sports Centre in Palmerstown, the club currently caters for some 130 members.
A holder of the Swim Ireland Club Mark since 2016, Viking SC has proven remarkably successful at introducing many young people to the sport.
“We focus predominantly on inclusion, bringing more kids into the sport,” explained Brendan Ryan, Chairman of the Viking Swim Club committee.
“Now there is an element of performance as well, but our members are improving constantly.
“The swimmers do have to perform at the galas in order to qualify for regional and national competition,” he added.
Scooping the ‘Lein-ster Regional Club’ Award was a major boost to the club with Head Coach Jackie Roche saying, after receiving the accolade “We have all worked very hard to build and develop the club under the guidance of Swim Ireland.
“It was great for all of the swimmers, parents and coaching staff to get this recognition for the work put in over several years.”
Viking SC is straight back into action early this year with both development and performance-based galas scheduled for January.
The club will also be running trials for their Minnows and Junior Squad in Ballyfermot on Saturday, January 13. To register your interest contact: membersec [at] vikingsc [dot] com
