Tallaght Village lost a familiar face in late December following the passing of popular Molloy’s employee Charles ‘Charlie’ King.

The Tallaght native worked as a car park supervisor and on-site security in Molloy’s Pub.

Charlie (62), originally from Tallaght and late of Raheny, died suddenly on Friday, December 29.

Charlie’s removal took place last Friday, January 5 at St Aidan’s Church in Brookfield, and he was later buried at the Temple Hill Quaker Burial Ground in Blackrock.

Charlie’s family asked that donations be made to the Peter McVerry Trust.

The King family live in Glenshane, with Charlie working in the Molloy’s car park for 13 years.

Speaking to The Echo, his wife Eirene spoke about the father of four, saying: “He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Eirene said: “I miss him terribly. We have a spaniel named Duke that he was very fond of, Duke misses him terribly.”

Charlie and Eirene’s daughter returned to Ireland from Canada after learning of his passing.

General manager at Molloy’s Fran Worrall remembered a ‘lovely’ and ‘reliable’ man who was well-liked by all the staff.

He said: “He was a lovely, willing guy who was conscientious in his work, always happily did his job.

“He got on well with everyone, he always had a pleasant smile and would have been well-known by businesses around Village Green.”

Condolences posted online read: “I am so very sorry for your loss of Charlie, wonderful friend for many years, always had a special smile and never pass you by. Rest now Charlie.”
