TALLAGHT University Hospital has today reminded the community that visiting restrictions are in place across all of its adult wards.

Visiting is restricted to one visitor per patient at a time, with no children under the age of 12 to visit adult wards.

The children’s wards have no restriction for parents of patients but visitors are asked to check with the ward before attending.

According to a spokesperson for Tallaght University Hospital (TUH): “The hospital is asking for your help to protect vulnerable patients and prevent further spread of influenza and flu like illnesses, which are present in the community and hospital at the moment.

“The priority is to protect our patients, our staff and the public in general.”

The spokesperson added: “Members of the public should not visit the hospital, unless it is absolutely necessary.

“We would also like to emphasise that the public should not visit the hospital if they are experiencing any vomiting or diarrhoea or cold/flu like symptoms such as fever, dry cough, sore throat or aches and pains.”

The hospital has also noted that the adult and children’s emergency departments are particularly busy due to increasing levels of flu and norovirus.

Members of the public are asked to attend their family doctor/out of hours GP or consult with their community pharmacist with any minor illness.
