Walkers rescue ducks separated from mother

THERE once was five little ducklings who got separated from their mother in Sean Walsh Park.
However, thanks to the kindness of park users and the gardai, this story has a very happy ending.
Happy ending, ducklings reunited with their mother
Last week, Springfield residents Michael and Genevieve Creagh were on their regular walk through Tallaght’s Sean Walsh Park when they heard noise coming from the direction of the water.
“We walked over and noticed that five ducklings had slipped down a little waterfall and they were panicking”, Michael told The Echo.
“The mother duck was panicking too and was trying to stop the other six ducklings from falling down [the waterfall].
“Two gardai were at the bridge and they came down to help.”
Michael uses a plank to rescue ducklings
Maintaining a safe distance from each other, the small team of rescuers found a plank of wood and placed it at the little waterfall for the ducklings to climb.
“I took off my shoes and socks and put the plank down into the water for the ducklings”, Michael said.
“The park warden had arrived at this stage and we could see that the ducklings were nervous with people around.”
Mother duck encouraging her ducklings to safety
Michael’s wife Genevieve told The Echo that once the small gathering moved away, the five ducklings eventually made their way up the plank – and were reunited with their mother.
Thanks to the great team work of Michael, Genevieve, gardai, the park warden and mammy duck, the feathered family were soon after spotted swimming happily together.
Commenting on the beauty of Sean Walsh Park and the array of wildlife that inhabits it, Michael and Genevieve, who live in Virginia Heights, also thanked the two community Garda present and the park warden.
Tallaght Garda Station confirmed that it is aware of the rescue mission and that the two community officers that came to the aid of the ducklings were Garda Adrian King and Jennifer Ryan.
