A FUNDRAISER to help a young girl enjoy playtime with her friends smashed it’s €4k target.

Lily May Rogers (5) from Ballyfermot is diagnosed with hydrocephalus – a condition where an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid occurs within the brain.

She endured her first brain surgery at just 10 days old and needed another operation to replace her shunt at five months.

After her second operation she had an intraventricular brain hemorrhage which she miraculously survived but this led to Lily May developing epilepsy.

Her grandmother Denise Doyle Rogers, said the fundraiser for their “warrior princess” on Sunday was a “great day” for Lily May’s parents Sabrina Rogers, Darren Byrne and sister Ava (12).

“It was amazing. There was great support for the fun run at her pre-school St Louise’s.

At the moment, she can’t go out to play with her friends. She wears splints and uses a walker but the play area is all grass.

This fundraiser is to go towards funding for a soft play area, so she can play with her friends.”

In the New Year, there is a possibility Lily May might need further medical treatment but her family say their warrior princess has “astounded doctors with her progression” and become a “beacon of hope and joy for everyone who has had the pleasure to meet her.”

A GoFundMe for Lily May has generated €4,540 by Wednesday morning.
