Weir Interiors has seen a big increase in upholstery
By Maurice Garvey
2020 was a pretty tumultuous year for local businesses, but it saw some positives along the way, such as the digital transformation and acceleration of online services due to home-working and Covid-19 restrictions.
Lucan company Weir Interiors, a one-stop-shop for home décor and refurbishments, noticed a dramatic increase in demand for one of their primary services - upholstery.
Interior Designer and owner of Weir Interiors Sharon Carroll
“2020 was very busy for upholstery. Customer orders from last October have only just been despatched but because we supply such a wide range of fabrics we took onboard much more upholstery work than normal” said Sharon Carroll, owner of Weir Interiors, which she founded in 2010.
“During the first lockdown, former customers came back to us again and then subsequently their family members got in-touch”.
Thankfully the lockdowns did not prevent the steady delivery of orders and customers utilising their phone, click&collect options.
Interior designer Sharon, has built the business over 10 years, evolving from offering simple fabrics and furnishings, into a business that provides every single interior need for customers.
From a complete interior design service to expert project management for major works, including extensions and structural alterations.
“It is a complete one-stop-shop here at Weir Interiors, and no job is too big or too small. We have all the necessary tradespeople: decorators, builders, carpenters, and some have been with me for over 10 years. We are known for our wallpapers, of which we have a vast range of designs and styles to suit every budget. And we carry an extensive amount of sample books and fabrics in our library, and anything we don’t have, we can get with a quick phone call.”
It hasn’t been all plain-sailing in 2020, as the Lucan Village showroom was “closed for almost half of it” but this led to the launch of a new website that includes a substantial online showroom and gallery.
The personal approach though is vital for Sharon, who likes to build a relationship with her customers, in the showroom or during home consultations.
“In previous years, about 70 per cent of our customers would like to visit the showroom for the first consultation. However, in 2020 we completed many more home visits (when restrictions allowed) or we operated on a remote consultation basis. This is how we must adapt and connect today, but like my customers we prefer the personal touch, as it gives you a much better insight.”
Currently Weir Interiors are in the process of re-locating their premises, and are hosting an online showroom clearance sale.
“It is tricky in Covid times because you cannot move anywhere, but we will be staying in the same local area,” said Sharon.
