When I’m With You: Cable Boy release their latest single

Cable Boy, the ethereal dream-pop sensation hailing from Dublin, is set to enchant music lovers once again with the release of their latest single, ‘W.I.W.Y’ (‘When I’m With You’), which took place on November 15, 2023, reports Chiara-Lian Gruschke.

The five-piece band, drawing inspiration from the likes of Tame Impala, Diiv, and Blood Orange, has crafted a shimmering dream-pop track that paints an endearing picture of desire.

Following the success of their 2022 single ‘Useful Gift’, which garnered local acclaim and earned them supporting slots for UK band Spector and Juan Wauters, Cable Boy continues to captivate audiences with their distinctive sound.

Lead singer and songwriter Semilore describes ‘W.I.W.Y’ as a song that “tells the story of desire for that special person, a constant contemplation of being together, building a fantasy that blurs the line between imagination and reality”.

The band recorded the single with long-time collaborator and friend LOD at Dublin’s historic Windmill Lane Studios. Semilore reflects on the recording process, stating, “it was a really easy recording process.

LOD was super-understanding with what we wanted to do with the song. We were surrounded by pictures of artists and legends from the past and present, it was hard not to create songs full of love, longing, and nostalgia. It was just a nice cosy session.”

The accompanying music video for ‘W.I.W.Y’ was released on November 22, 2023, promising to visually complement the song’s nostalgic groove and Semilore’s longing vocals.

In a recent interview with The Echo, Semilore shared insights into Cable Boy’s journey, musical influences, and plans for the future. The band, formed in 2017, evolved from Semilore’s desire to create music reminiscent of his idols, including Tame Impala.

With a line-up solidified in 2021, Cable Boy has been crafting dream-pop that draws inspiration from bands like The Cure and Tame Impala.

As Cable Boy gears up for  singles and visuals in early 2024, Semilore hinted at the band’s excitement following the releases. The band is taking a hands-on approach, recording new tracks themselves while maintaining professional assistance for mixing and mastering.

For more updates and to experience the magic of Cable Boy’s dream-pop, be sure to catch the release of ‘W.I.W.Y’.
