A COLLEGE graduate had a lucky escape last week, after a feral gang of youths attempted to break into her car, while she waited for a traffic light to go green.

Sarah-Jane Morris (23), was on her way home from visiting her grandmother in Inchicore, on Tuesday evening at 7pm.

Whilst waiting for the lights to turn green at the junction of the Black Horse Pub and Tyrconnell Road, one of the youths attempted to open the door of her car.

“There was five boys aged about 13, one boy had a sledgehammer and another had a tool of some sort,” said Sarah-Jane

“When the young boy rattled the door handle of my car, I looked up and thankfully the light went green, so I sped off. A lot of cars were beeping at them. I never usually lock my doors, thank God I did this time.

“I parked at the side of an estate to make the call to gardai, but wanted to get off the phone asap to get home, because I was a bit shaken.”

A resident of Templeogue, Sarah-Jane has a lot of family in the West Dublin area and is a regular visitor to Inchicore, but this was the first time she experienced a disturbing incident like this.

“My car wasn’t damaged thankfully,” said Sarah-Jane.

“I don’t know if they were planning on damaging the cars or if the tools were just to scare people – who knows.

“I have a feeling they were possibly looking for phones and handbags in the cars while people were stopped at the lights.”
