Workers recognised for completing course

Workers from Clondalkin Traveller Primary Health Care Project were presented with certificates at Clondalkin Travellers Development Group in Neilstown Road Industrial Estate.
The workers successfully completed a community education course about Money Managment, which was facilitated by Clondalkin MABS and Dublin 10&20 MABS.
This programme was a joint initiative between Clondalkin Travellers Primary Health Care Project, Dublin 10&20 MABS and Clondalkin MABS.
An input to the course was also made by Clondalkin Citizens Information Services.
The course was facilitated by Annette McMahon who works in both Dublin 10&20 MABS and Clondalkin MABS. MABS – the Money Advice and Budgeting Service – is a free, independent, confidential, and non-judgemental advice service for people who are having difficulties with managing money or are in debt.
The Clondalkin Traveller Primary Health Care team provides an outreach service of health promotion, information, and support to accessing health and all other services in the community.
In total, 12 staff members were recognised for completing the training which covers budgeting, saving and borrowing, dealing with debt, and in particular tackling legal and illegal moneylending.
The knowledge developed and information gathered during the course can now be applied to Clondalkin Traveller Primary Health Care Project’s work with the local Traveller community, and the service can refer people to MABS and Citizens Information.
Annette McMahon from MABS, who facilitated the course said: “I found this course to be a two way learning process where I also learned from the women about their culture, traditions, expectations, and ways of living. It was a joy and a pleasure all around.”
