Workman’s Club farewell gig for Luke

TALLAGHT singer-songwriter Luke Clerkin played a farewell gig in The Workman’s Club earlier this month, ahead of embarking on a German tour and travelling around Europe.

The Springfield native recently played a headline show in Whelan’s and released his newest single ‘Gloria’ in February.

Now the 25-year-old is hoping to bring his music to a wider audience after playing hundreds of gigs.

Explaining what prompted him to decide to move away, Luke told The Echo: “I have to leave here, and it’s sad to say that.

“I just feel like I’m a bit of a hamster in a wheel [in Ireland].

“I’ve been doing a lot but nothing’s really happening [for my music].”

Berlin is the first stop on his upcoming tour, which he said was picked because “it’s just one of those places that people have told me about – it sounds almost magical.”

Looking ahead to leaving Ireland, Luke said: “It’s scary, but it’s cool.

“It’s like the end of an era – the end of one journey and the beginning of a new one.”
