Year in Review 2019: January

JANUARY CAN be a dark month. It may be the start of the New Year but it is just after Christmas and people are starting afresh with great plans for the year ahead.
It was a tragic Christmas for Megan ‘Fuzzy’ O’Connor who died on December 23, 2018. She was remembered by her family and friends for having a beautiful heart.

Two weeks before Megan died, she helped save an elderly woman’s life after noticing how ill she looked aboard the Luas and ultimately performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while waiting on an ambulance.
The very first baby born in Dublin, and the second in the country to arrive in the New Year was Clondalkin’s Amelia O’Brien.
Born at just four seconds past midnight to parents Leanne Farrell and Alan O’Brien in the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, she came into the world as the fireworks went off around the county.
CLOSE on ten years ago, The Echo published one of its first articles on the delivery of a Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Tallaght University Hospital.
This was back in August 2010 when Tallaght was promised a children’s urgent care centre as part of original plans to build a national paediatric hospital on a site at the Mater Hospital by 2014.

On the lighter side, legendary guitarist and founding member of Thin Lizzy, Eric Bell, played a gig in the Civic Theatre. The Echo’s Hayden Moore spoke to Mr Bell in the run up to the gig.
GONE but not forgotten, young Nicole ‘Coco’ Fox Fenlon (21) from Clondalkin, who was bullied to suicide will appear on leaflets with every new mobile phone bought through Eir, the Echo reported this month.
The communications company are including the leaflet on the dangers of cyber bullying, and aimed to launch it for Safer Internet Day 2019 in February.

Finally, during January, Lucan’s James Casserly and his family enjoyed a trip of a lifetime when they went to visit Disneyworld courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
James, his mother, Vicki Casserly, his dad, Dan Naughton and James’s brother, Tom Naughton, all travelled to the Sunshine State.
