THE loss of 25 on-street parking spaces in Templeogue Village as part of the proposed Bus Connects project is among a number of concerns being raised at a public information meeting this Friday, February 22, reports Mary Dennehy.

Templeogue Village is located along the Tallaght to Terenure bus corridor, with Bus Connects proposals for the busy village including the loss of a number of residential gardens through CPOs and the removal of 25 on-street parking spaces.

Some of the on-street parking spaces are located outside local businesses.

Speaking with The Echo, Templeogue/Terenure councillor Pamela Kearns (Labour Party) said that the proposed removal of 25 parking spaces raises serious economic concerns for the area.

“There are concerns that people will just drive through the village… that they’re not going to stop,” Cllr Kearns said.

“Taking away the on-street parking will also lead to loading difficulties for traders.”

Alongside the potential economic damage posed by the proposals, increased traffic in the village has also been flagged as buses and bikes take priority through an already busy hub.

Cllr Kearns believes that if traffic slows down and builds up within the village, that it will push traffic out onto peripheral roads as motorists seek a quicker route.

“This could turn surrounding areas into rat runs as people avoid the village,” Cllr Kearns said.

“It also raises questions around how trucks delivering goods to traders will get through the village, and if they do get through they’ll have nowhere to park.”

She added: “We have to address the issues of traffic and climate change but we need a better way to do it.

“It’s important that people remember that this is just a proposal and the meeting is being held to give people as much information as we can and encourage them to make their own submissions.”

Fine Gael TD Colm Brophy will also be in attendance to talk people through the maps, after which the floor will be open for questions and feedback.

The public information meeting is being organised by the Templeogue Tidy Towns committee, of which Cllr Kearns is the chairperson.

The meeting will be held in the Templeogue Tennis Club this Friday, February 22, at 8pm.
