A NEWLY refurbished pavilion at Markievicz Park in Ballyfermot was officially opened.

The Part 8 works were carried out by Dublin City Council as part of their on-going parks capital programme.

DCC’s Parks and Landscape Services division managed the project, which has delivered a newly re-furbished and extended changing-room pavilion in Markievicz Park.

The previous changing rooms were over 25 years old and in need of total refurbishment.

Mechanical and electrical services at the site were not deemed to be compatible with current standards and the building was cited as dark with outdated facilities and not universally accessible.

The building contractors, Mikey Hartnett & Mick Culligan of Tolmac Construction, brought the architect’s design to life and the newly refurbished pavilion is described by the council as a bright, inviting place and a fantastic addition to this much-loved neighbourhood park.

The refurbishment and upgrade of the pavilion includes a new single-storey extension to the O’Hogan Road side at the park, to provide a fully accessible sports pavilion.

Works have also provided additional changing facilities, showers and toilets.

This will have all the necessary amenities and will be will utilised by local clubs, Colepark, Landen and Our Lady of Victories.
