Supermarket giant looks to build sheltered canopy

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco is seeking permission for the construction of a sheltered canopy in the existing car park of their Liffey Valley store, for the purpose of providing two dedicated ‘Click and Collect’ spaces.
The supermarket’s ‘Click and Collect’ system allows customers to purchase their groceries online and then collect them at their nearest store which offers the service.

Last April, Tesco announced that it was going to expand its ‘Click and Collect’ offering around the country.
At the time of the announcement, Geoff Byrne, the Chief Operating Officer of Tesco Ireland, said: “In response to additional customer demand for grocery shopping services during Covid-19, we’re pleased to have been able to make thousands more slots available for grocery home shopping.
“Now we are increasing the number of ‘Click and Collect’ slots for customers across the country who prefer the convenience of shopping online in advance and collecting their shopping at a location convenient for them.
“These additional brand-new and expanded sites, combined with our ‘think before you click’ campaign, will help us make more slots available to deliver shopping to the homes of those who need it most.”
The Tesco in Liffey Valley is the only branch in Dublin that has been earmarked for the development of a new ‘Click and Collect’ facility.
A decision on the supermarket’s application is due from the council by September 2.
