Bermingham ready for another year with the Saints

IAN BERMINGHAM will line out with St Patrick’s Athletic for the 2022 season after penning a new deal with the Inchicore side.

The club’s FAI Cup-winning captain and all time appearance record holder is now gearing up to embark on his 13th season with the Saints.

The defender, who enjoyed a great year in Red, helping Pat’s to the FAI Cup as well as a runner-up finish in the Airtricity League, is relishing another year at Richmond Park.

“It’s great to be back for another season” he said. “We had a brilliant 2021, winning the FAI Cup and finishing second in the league, and we’re looking to build on that in 2022.

“I’m very proud to be going into my 13th year at the club, I’ve really enjoyed it so far. The supporters and everyone have been a brilliant support to me. It really is a special club and I’m looking forward to another season as a Saint.”

Certainly Pat’s manager Alan Mathews is in no doubt about the value of Bermingham’s experience and what he can bring to the table.

“We are delighted to have Ian on board with us” he said. “His leadership, professionalism and consistency of performance were one of the main drivers in the club having a successful 2021.

“With a squad of some excellent young players, Ian is the perfect role model for them to learn from, and we look forward to building on what we achieved this year in the season ahead.”

Bermingham’s deal follows hot on the heels of news that midfielder Chris Forrester and the club reached agreement on a new long-term contract.
