Choral Society’s first concert since the pandemic

THE Tallaght Choral Society is holding their first public concert after a hiatus of over two years.

The Tallaght Choral Society, directed by Lynsey Callaghan, is performing Frideric Handel’s four Coronation Anthems, tomorrow, Sunday, May 29 in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Greenhills.

The performance begins at 8pm, and tickets are available at the door for €15.

Navigating gracefully through the outbreak of Covid-19 and the beginning of lockdown, the choir continued to rehearse all throughout the pandemic.

Through Zoom, they met online each week, even gaining some new members from exotic locations thanks to the global online aspect of the group.

This past autumn brought the reunion of the Tallaght Choral Society, and the choir met in-person for the first time since the start of Covid-19.

Rehearsals took place in the open air outside the Priory in Tallaght, often in the cold and waning light.

Once they were able to move rehearsals indoors, they continued to practice safety precautions by wearing masks, despite their hinderance to the choir’s singing.

In addition to their return to the public stage, the choir members will be recording part of a work for the Irish National Opera, entitled ‘Out of the Ordinary’, the day before their concert. The recording will be available online over the summer months.

The Tallaght Choral Society is looking forward to their busy weekend and singing for the public once again in Greenhills.
