What’s the storey with the Red Cow?

A FURTHER two storeys of development on a previously approved five-storey extension to the Red Cow Hotel has been allowed by South Dublin County Council.

It will see the development of a seven-storey extension, with an additional 52 hotel bedrooms in addition to the already approved 104 bedrooms and revisions to the existing car park to provide 412 car-parking spaces.

The grant of permission comes as a further application for the development of the site is submitted, for an extension to the existing hotel restaurant, along with provision for a new entrance and lobby at ground-floor level of the hotel.

Within the application, the Red Cow Hotel is also seeking permission to change the current hotel gym to meeting rooms, and two hotel bedrooms to a new gym.

It was submitted by Guestford Ltd, which trades as Red Cow Moran Hotel and includes owner Thomas Moran among its directors.

Original planning permission for the five-storey extension was granted back in July and included the demolition of the Red Cow Pavilion, with final approval for the development granted in December following a first-party appeal.

It will include meeting rooms, a lounge area and a link to the existing hotel building, with revisions to the internal roads and set-down areas included.

A planned courtyard plant room has been omitted as part of the new plans, with a plant-storage area in the basement included following the grant of permission.

The plans will see the total floor area of the extension come to 7,716sq.m. – an increase of 2,376sq.m. from the original application.

Submissions on the new application, for the extension of the restaurant and change of use, will be accepted until March 21 with a decision on the application due by April 11.
