D.I.D. Crumlin celebrate 40 years in the business with special offers for customers
By Maurice Garvey
D.I.D. Crumlin celebrated 40 years in operation this week with a run of special offers to thank customers for their continued support.
Established in 1976 by Gerry Houlihan, D.I.D Crumlin is one of the most recognisable business premises in South Dublin – prominently located on the corner of Crumlin Road and Sundrive Road.
Houlihan first opened a D.I.D. shop in Mountjoy Square in 1968, before expanding the D.I.D. franchise in Crumlin and setting up a further 20 electrical retail stores across the country.
Alan Clarke, Manager of D.I.D. Crumlin said: “The store has been revamped with the times. We sell a range of electrical products, but white goods – dishwashers, fridges – have always remained very popular throughout the years.”
Due to an older demographic in the area, often elderly customers will enquire about the availability of video recorders or hand in their old televisions with wooden bases to staff at D.I.D Crumlin.
“Fast forward 40 years and the modest family-run business has expanded to a nationwide service with 22 stores and a rapidly expanding online business,” said Mr Clarke.
“The business has grown, but the community spirit Gerry fostered in Sundrive still remains.”
Radio Nova were at the Crumlin premises last week, to help the eight D.I.D. staff and customers celebrate the occasion – offering some lucky visitors deals for a variety of goods.
Savings can be found across a range of products, from washing machines, TVs, laptops and vacuums at D.I.D.
