Animation students dominate at Smedias

BALLYFERMOT College of Further Education animation students dominated the Best Shorts category at the Smedias.

The college congratulated animation student Sean Cunningham for winning a Smedia at the National Student Media Awards on April 7 at the Avivia Stadium, with his delightful short animation Bugg and Mr Hill.

It is the latest accolade for Sean, who won three awards at the recent Dingle Film Festival.

BCFE animation students David Delaney and Hannah Cleary were also shortlisted for the Best Short Animation award. Other nominees included BCFE’s Richard Barragry for Short Film of the Year and John Murphy for TV Production of the Year.

Journalism students secured nominations in three categories. Ruairí O’Hehir for Editor of the Year, Kevin Gillespie for Newspaper Layout and Design and the BCFE Bulletin for Best Small College Publication.

A statement on the BCFE website said: “We’d like to congratulate them one and all for securing nominations and receiving the industry recognition for the hard work they put into their respective creative media projects and wishing them all the best in their future careers.”
