Ly Garden, Sunflower and Food Inn to battle it out for Best Spicebag Award

The battle of the much-loved Spicebag is set to reach fever pitch later this year after several local takeaways were pitched against each other in the Just Eat.ie National Takeaway Awards nominations list.

Spread across 19 categories, the awards recognise those places where we love to munch on the tastiest food around.

Categories include Best Chipper, Best Curry, Best Mexican, Ireland’s best Takeaway, and of course, our favourite, Best Spicebag.

A debate as to the takeaway that can perfectly combine succulent chicken, with the perfectly prepared chips, coated in a salt and chilli flavouring that make you want to dive right into bag of spiciness has been rumbling on for many years.

In this year’s competition three local takeaways (Ly Garden Tallaght, Sunflower, Templeogue and Food Inn, Ballyfermot) are in the running for the accolade.

According to some, Sunflower is the birthplace of the Spicebag, while Ly Garden are often quoted as serving up the finest combo of spicy chicken and chips this side of the Liffey.

Ballyfermot based Food Inn are also regularly named as being somewhere to try for a top quality Spicebag, and they take their place in the top five alongside Foo Lok in Blanchardstown and Kung Fu in Carlow.

Ly Garden top the list of local takeaways nominated, being named in five categories, including a nod in the coveted Best Takeaway in Ireland grouping, while they will also be battling it out with Sunflower in the Best Takeaway in Dublin category.

Plenty of other locals make the list too, with Domino’s Pizza in the Square, Darius Takeaway, Subway in the Square and MAO at home in Clondalkin all included.
