Adeleke smashes Irish 400m record with 13th fastest all-time run

TALLAGHT athlete Rhasidat Adeleke smashed her own Irish 400m record at the weekend, while also clocking the fastest women’s indoor time in American collegiate history.

On Saturday, Adeleke won the Big 12 Conference Championships in Lubbock, Texas, beating her own Irish 400m record of 50.45 seconds – trimming it to 50.33.

Based in the University of Texas in Austin, Adeleke is now ranked second fastest in the world this year, after the Netherlands’ Femke Bol’s world indoor record of 49.26.

The win also moves Adeleke into 13th place in the all-time list of indoor 400m runs.

Calm and consistent as always, the local sprinter now has her sights set on next month’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

Adeleke was recently named The Echo’s Sport Star of the Year 2022.
