Age & Opportunity deliver Introduction to Walking Football

THE benefits of ‘Walking Football’ will be available for members of the public to see for themselves at Ballyfermot Leisure Centre over the coming weeks.

Age & Opportunity, in partnership with the Irish Men’s Shed Association, are delivering a five week course – ‘Introduction to Walking Football’.

The course is a fun way to socialise and exercise with members from your own and/or other Men’s Sheds.

Walking football is a safe and accessible sport and can be played by anyone, even if you have never played football before.

Norman Farragher of Naas Men’s Shed, who took part in the programme last year, said: “This has been so beneficial to the mental and physical health of our Shedders. We laughed, we slagged, we bragged and we loved it. The benefits to shedders taking part in an activity like this is enormous.”

The programme is funded by Sport Ireland and therefore there is no cost to participants.

Each host shed will receive equipment including footballs and bibs afterwards so they can continue to play once the programme has finished.

Anyone interested in taking part can email paul.gallier@ageandopportunity.ie or call Paul on 8057705.

To see what Walking Football is like in person before signing up you can visit Ballyfermot Leisure Centre, 10 Blackditch Road, on April 7, April 14, April 21, at 11am – 12pm.
