Alex donates hair to Little Princess Trust

A LOCAL schoolgirl donated ten inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust last month, as she wanted to help children who had lost their hair as a result of cancer and other conditions.

Alex Clarges (11), from Springfield in Tallaght, got her hair cut in Hair to Dye for in Rathcoole after growing out her hair for over a year so it would be long enough to be donated.

The young girl, who is a pupil in Scoil Chrónáin in Rathcoole, got the inspiration to donate her hair when she previously got her hair cut and saw pictures on the wall of other young girls donating to the Little Princess Trust.

Alex’s mother, Catherine O’Connell, told The Echo: “Alex was a little bit nervous when she got her hair cut, but she was very happy afterwards.

“I know that she hopes her hair will go to a young child who has cancer and has no hair.”

When asked how she feels about her daughter donating her hair, Ms O’Connell said: “Alex made up her own mind doing this – it was all her.

“I was surprised when she said she wanted to do it, but I’m very proud of her for doing it.”
