However, the three parade committees have this afternoon confirmed that their March 17 events have been cancelled.

A decision on the Four Districts Parade (Rathcoole, Saggart, Newcastle and Brittas) will be made at a committee meeting later this evening.

In a Facebook post, the committee behind the Tallaght parade wrote: “It is with heavy heart that we have to announce that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the risk to public health, the 2020 St Patrick’s Day Tallaght Parade has to be cancelled.”

Announcing its decision on Facebook, the Clondalkin parade committee said: “We know a lot of people will be disappointed by this decision but we must put public health first.”

The move locally comes after a number of parades across the country were cancelled in Dublin, Cork and Waterford today.

To date, 33 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Ireland.
