CLOSE to €40,000 was awarded to 10 community-based projects during a recent event that acknowledged the positive impact local groups have on the health and wellbeing of communities.

Based in Tallaght University Hospital, the Adelaide Health Foundation’s annual Community Healthcare Initiative Scheme was staged last week, with a total of €39,880 awarded to ten local groups.

The groups awarded provide a wide range of services at grassroots level, including child play therapy, defibrillator training, art sessions for people with dementia, yoga classes and drug rehabilitation.

Started in 2011, the Community Health Initiative scheme has been growing from strength to strength, since it first awarded only one grant of €5,000 in its first year.

According to Triona Murphy, Board member of the Adelaide Health Foundation: “The budget has expanded year on year and with the support of the whole board of the Adelaide Hospital Foundation we awarded almost €40,000 in grants to some fantastic projects.

“We decided this year to award the grants at our AGM night and invited all the winners to stay on for dinner afterwards.
